There was a block deal executed for Granules India last Friday, September 11, wherein 5.3% of the pharmaceutical firm’s equity was transacted through a deal worth around ₹1,160 crore.

In the block deal, about 1.33 crore shares were sold per share at ₹872.50. This price marked a discount of around 3% from the previous close price of ₹899.25 of Granules India.

This came days after reports said on Thursday that the firm’s promoter Krishna Prasad Chigurupati had been seeking to reduce its stake in the company. The names of the counter-parties involved in the deal made last Friday remained undisclosed in the report.

1.33 Crore Shares Change Hands

The block transaction involved approximately 1.33 crore Granules India shares, representing about 5.3% of the company’s equity.

At ₹872.50 per share, the deal was worth around ₹1,160 crore.

The transaction came after reports on Thursday that Chigurupati was looking to sell as many as 1.72 crore shares, equivalent to a 6.94% stake, through a block deal valued at around ₹1,500 crore.

The proposed transaction had a floor price of ₹872.50 per share, the same price at which Friday’s block deal was executed. IIFL was reported to be the sole broker for the proposed sale.

The reported offer also included a 180-day lock-in period restricting the promoter from undertaking another share sale.

Promoter Held Around 31% at End of June Quarter

Chigurupati held around 31% of Granules India at the end of the June 2026 quarter.

If he was the seller in Friday’s transaction, the 1.33 crore shares that changed hands would represent a sizeable reduction in his holding.

The available transaction information cited in the report, however, does not establish the identity of the seller. The promoter’s involvement therefore remains based on the earlier reported sale plan.

Granules India Shares Move Up 45% in 2026

Granules India shares ended up 1.63% to ₹899.25 in Thursday’s trading, ahead of the block deal.

The stock was up around 45% year-to-date (YTD) as of now, against a fall of about 10.2% in Nifty 50 YTD.

Granules India had a market capitalization of around ₹22,200 crore as of Thursday’s close.

Q1 Profit Rises 60%

The stake transaction follows a strong first quarter for the generic drugmaker.

Granules India reported a 60% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹179.96 crore for the first quarter of FY27.

Revenue from operations rose 22% to ₹1,476.8 crore.

Growth during the quarter was supported by a higher contribution from complex generics as well as the company’s Europe and other international markets.

Complex generics accounted for 50% of finished-dosage sales during the quarter, up from 39% in the corresponding period a year earlier.

Granules India reported a gross margin of 65.6%, while its EBITDA margin stood at 22.9%.

Friday’s ₹1,160 crore transaction was smaller than the earlier reported potential sale of around ₹1,500 crore. While the 1.33 crore shares were sold at the same ₹872.50 floor price indicated in that proposal, confirmation of the buyer and seller identities remains awaited.
