Muharram Holiday To Keep NSE And BSE Shut On June 26; Trading To Resume On June 29

Indian equity markets will remain closed on June 26 on account of Muharram, with both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE suspending trading across equity, equity derivatives and securities lending segments. Market activity will resume on June 29 following the extended weekend.

The Muharram holiday is among the scheduled trading holidays for calendar year 2026. After this closure, seven trading holidays will still remain for the rest of the year.

No Trading Holidays In July And August

According to the exchange holiday calendar, no market holidays are scheduled during July and August.
The next trading holiday after Muharram will fall on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi. Markets will subsequently remain shut on October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and October 20 for Dussehra.

In November, exchanges will observe holidays on November 10 for Diwali-Balipratipada and November 24 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

November 8, marked for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, will not be a full trading holiday. Exchanges will conduct the customary Muhurat Trading session on that day. The NSE has stated that the timings for Muhurat Trading will be announced separately through a circular. The final stock market holiday of 2026 is scheduled for December 25 on account of Christmas.

MCX To Operate Only In Evening Session

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe a partial trading holiday on June 26. Commodity trading will remain suspended during the morning session between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Trading will resume in the evening session and continue from 5:00 pm until 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm, depending on the commodity segment.

Banks To Remain Closed In Several Cities

Bank branches across many parts of the country will also remain closed on June 26 due to Muharram.

However, banking services will continue in select locations including Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Shillong, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram.

In addition, banks across India will remain closed on June 27 as it is the fourth Saturday of the month, in line with Reserve Bank of India guidelines.
