Q2 FY27 Earnings Ahead: What Investors Should Watch in Coal India, NTPC, Asian Paints, IndiGo and Trent
Last Updated: 28th October 2026 - 05:58 pm
India's September-quarter earnings season is gathering momentum, with major companies across mining, power, paints, aviation and retail preparing to announce their Q2 FY27 results. Coal India, Asian Paints, IndiGo and Trent have scheduled board meetings for October 29, while NTPC will review its quarterly results on October 31.
Although these companies operate in different industries, their earnings will offer insights into industrial demand, household consumption, input costs and business expansion. Here is what investors should watch ahead of their announcements.
Q2 FY27 Results Calendar at a Glance
| Company | Results Date | Key Factors to Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Coal India | 29 October | Production, realisations, e-auction premiums |
| NTPC | 31 October | Generation, PLF, capacity additions |
| Asian Paints | 29 October | Volumes, margins, raw materials |
| IndiGo | 29 October | Fuel costs, yields, traffic |
| Trent | 29 October | Store expansion, margins |
1. Coal India: Can Higher Coal Supplies Support Earnings?
Official Coal India production data show output of 320.91 million tonnes and coal offtake of 381.76 million tonnes for the financial year to September 30, 2026. These are first-half cumulative figures, not September-quarter totals. The figures provide an operational backdrop ahead of the company’s Q2 FY27 financial results.
Investors will look for the quarterly production and offtake mix, e-auction realisations, employee costs and any impact of monsoon conditions. These factors determine whether higher physical supply converts into better revenue and operating margins. The first-half figures should not be interpreted as Q2 earnings growth.
2. NTPC: Generation Efficiency and Capacity Expansion in Focus
NTPC reported consolidated profit after tax of Rs 6,896 crore in Q1 FY27, up 13%, compared with Rs 6,108 crore a year earlier. Its coal-based stations achieved a plant load factor (PLF) of 76.71%, against 70.32% for other Indian coal plants.
For Q2 FY27, investors will focus on electricity generation, plant availability, generation costs and contributions from new capacity. Progress in renewable energy projects and management commentary on capital expenditure will also be closely watched.
3. Asian Paints: Can Demand Recovery Sustain Growth?
Asian Paints reported consolidated net sales of Rs 10,521.4 crore in Q1 FY27, up 17.9%, while consolidated net profit increased 40% to Rs 1,539.3 crore.
The upcoming results will indicate whether that momentum continued in the September quarter. Investors will focus on domestic decorative-paints volumes, pricing, competitive intensity, raw-material costs and dealer inventory. Commentary on festive demand could provide further insight into household consumption.
4. IndiGo: Rising Fuel Costs Put Profitability Under the Spotlight
IndiGo enters the September-quarter reporting period with aviation turbine fuel, passenger yields and foreign-exchange exposure in focus. For a carrier, even strong demand may not protect profitability if fuel and operating costs rise faster than ticket revenue. The company’s official exchange-filed quarterly statements remain the appropriate source for published financial figures.
Investors should examine available seat kilometres, revenue per available seat kilometre, load factors, unit fuel costs and management commentary. A stronger passenger count does not necessarily imply higher profit when fares or operating costs change.
5. Trent: Will Strong Revenue Growth Translate into Higher Profit?
Trent’s upcoming financial results will provide a closer look at the performance of its Westside and Zudio retail businesses. The key question is whether store-network expansion is being matched by productive sales and sustainable margins. The earlier draft’s September-quarter sales and store-count figures have been omitted because they were not independently matched to an accessible original company filing.
Investors should watch store additions, comparable-store performance where disclosed, gross margin, operating expenses and management comments on consumer demand. Expansion can support revenue, but openings also bring initial staffing, inventory and occupancy costs.
Conclusion
These five results will offer a cross-sector reading of the Indian economy. Coal India and NTPC reflect energy activity, Asian Paints and Trent consumer demand, and IndiGo the balance between travel demand and fuel costs. Revenue growth matters, but margins, cash generation and management commentary will be equally important.
