Government Highlights Fuel Availability
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated on June 18 that supplies to domestic LPG, PNG and transport-sector CNG consumers continue at full capacity. The government added that priority allocation of commercial LPG is being maintained for hospitals, educational institutions and essential industries, including pharmaceuticals, steel, automobiles and agriculture.
The ministry also said availability of 5-kg free-trade LPG cylinders has been increased to support migrant workers and students.
Expansion of Gas Infrastructure
Government data showed that since March 2026, around 10.02 lakh PNG connections have been activated. Infrastructure has also been created for an additional 3.22 lakh connections, taking the total network capacity to 13.24 lakh connections.
In addition, nearly 9.94 lakh consumers have registered for new gas connections.
Measures to Strengthen the Supply Chain
To curb diversion and improve delivery efficiency, the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based distribution has been expanded to around 96% of deliveries. Under the system, consumers receive a verification code on their registered mobile number before cylinder delivery.
The government has also implemented a series of demand and supply management measures. They include increased refinery production, an altered LPG booking schedule, and preferential fuel supply to certain industries.
Although global oil markets continue to react to political changes, domestic fuel supply and city-wise fuel prices have been stable owing to proper inventory management and supply chain management.
