Key Takeaways
- Monthly SIP contributions reached a record ₹32,490 crore in September 2026, according to AMFI.
- SIP collections increased by ₹193 crore from August and approximately 10.66% compared with September 2025.
- The increase coincided with a 30.61% monthly rise in net inflows into equity-oriented mutual funds.
SIP Contributions Set New Monthly Record
Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions reached ₹32,490 crore in September 2026, the highest monthly amount recorded by India's mutual fund industry.
Data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India showed that contributions increased from ₹32,297 crore in August, a gain of ₹193 crore.
The year-on-year increase was larger. SIP contributions stood at ₹29,361 crore in September 2025, indicating growth of approximately 10.66% over the 12-month period.
The latest figures show that the amount invested through systematic investment arrangements continued to increase despite fluctuations in financial markets.
SIP Contributions Rise Alongside Equity Fund Inflows
September also recorded stronger inflows into equity-oriented mutual fund schemes.
Net equity fund inflows increased to ₹38,306.55 crore from ₹29,328.62 crore in August, representing growth of approximately 30.61%.
The two figures measure different activities.
SIP contributions represent gross investments made through systematic investment arrangements. Equity mutual fund net inflows reflect subscriptions less redemptions across equity-oriented schemes.
Consequently, the SIP total cannot be treated as an additional amount on top of reported equity fund inflows.
SIPs may also be registered in different mutual fund categories, depending on the schemes selected by investors.
Monthly Contributions Versus Industry Assets
Despite the record SIP contribution figure, total mutual fund assets under management declined from ₹87.08 lakh crore in August to ₹82.64 lakh crore in September.
The fall occurred as substantial withdrawals from debt mutual funds and changes in portfolio valuations affected the overall industry asset base.
This illustrates why monthly SIP collections, net mutual fund flows and assets under management need to be assessed separately.
SIP contributions indicate the volume of investments processed through systematic plans. They do not directly measure investment returns, the market value of holdings or the amount of money remaining invested after redemptions.
The September data establishes a new monthly SIP contribution high while showing that broader industry assets moved in the opposite direction.
