NSE May Enter AMFI Large-Cap List in H1 CY27, Nuvama Estimates
Last Updated: 5th October 2026 - 02:49 pm
Key Takeaways
- National Stock Exchange of India could enter the large-cap category in AMFI’s next semi-annual stock classification, according to estimates by Nuvama Institutional Equities.
- The estimated large-cap threshold may rise to about ₹1.10 lakh crore, while the mid-cap cut-off could increase to roughly ₹36,500 crore.
- The eventual AMFI classification will be based on market-cap data for July-December 2026 and is expected to take effect from 1 February 2027.
National Stock Exchange of India could be classified as a large-cap stock when the Association of Mutual Funds in India revises its market-cap categories for the first half of calendar year 2027, according to projections from Nuvama Institutional Equities.
SBI Funds Management, meanwhile, could enter the mid-cap universe as a newly listed company. These are estimates rather than AMFI’s final classifications, which will depend on average market capitalisation during the July-December 2026 review period.
Based on current averages, Nuvama expects the threshold separating large-cap companies from the rest of the market to rise to around ₹1.10 lakh crore, compared with approximately ₹1.06 lakh crore in June 2026. The projected mid-cap threshold stands at roughly ₹36,500 crore, up from ₹33,600 crore.
NSE is among the companies expected to qualify for the large-cap bucket. Bosch, Siemens Energy India, Lodha Developers, Zydus Lifesciences, Lenskart Solutions and LG Electronics India could also move from mid-cap to large-cap if current rankings persist.
Movement could take place in the opposite direction as well. Nuvama estimates that Godrej Consumer Products, Ambuja Cements, Tata Consumer Products, Indus Towers, Vedanta, HDFC Asset Management Company and Indian Railway Finance Corporation may shift from large-cap to mid-cap.
Among companies currently in the smaller end of the market, names including RBL Bank, Ather Energy, Welspun Corp, Aegis Logistics, Gland Pharma, Aditya Infotech and Sterlite Technologies are among those projected to enter the mid-cap category. SBI Funds Management, Manipal Health Enterprises and Indo-MIM could join this segment as newly classified stocks.
AMFI’s market-cap list is watched by the mutual fund industry because SEBI’s scheme categorisation rules link large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap fund mandates to these classifications. A change in category does not automatically generate mutual fund buying or selling, but it can alter the investible universe considered by funds operating under market-cap-specific mandates.
The H1 CY27 classification is expected to become effective from 1 February 2027. The final list may differ from current estimates if market-cap rankings change before the end of December.
