Last Updated: 4th September 2026 - 03:18 pm
Petrol and diesel prices remained largely steady across India on Friday, September 4, with no major changes reported in the rates announced by state-run oil marketing companies.
Fuel prices are revised every day at 6 am under India’s dynamic pricing system. However, rates have remained unchanged for nearly three months despite fluctuations in international crude oil markets.
The last significant revision in domestic fuel prices was made on May 25, when petrol became costlier by ₹2.70 per litre and diesel prices were raised by ₹2.80 per litre.
Prices in several major cities, including Jaipur, Lucknow and Patna, also remained unchanged on Friday. Petrol was selling at ₹113.19 per litre in Jaipur, ₹101.86 in Lucknow and ₹113.37 in Patna. Diesel was priced at ₹98.25, ₹95.36 and ₹99.36 per litre, respectively.

Crude Oil Prices Remain Elevated
While fuel prices at Indian pumps stayed unchanged, international crude oil prices remained high.
Brent crude futures were trading above $95.52 a barrel and had gained more than 7% during the week. The benchmark was heading towards its strongest weekly performance since July.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading close to $92 a barrel, according to Bloomberg.
The recent strength in global oil prices comes amid continued uncertainty in energy markets, with the US-Iran conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz affecting crude supply and trade routes.
For Indian consumers, however, these international movements have so far not translated into a fresh change in petrol and diesel prices.
