Selling pressure mounted in Indian equity markets on Monday, October 12, 2026 with the Nifty 50 ending 0.70% lower at 22,363.35. The Sensex also declined 547.65 points to close at 71,924.68, with weakness in heavyweight stocks dragging market sentiment.

Nifty 50 dipped 0.85% between October 5 and October 12. However, some Nifty 500 stocks moved in the opposite direction. Shares of Cupid, PTC Industries, Welspun Corp, PNB Housing Finance and Gallant Ispat jumped between 8.34% and 16.11%, far outstripping the benchmark.

The divergence was due to a combination of earnings upgrades, institutional fund-raising, order book visibility and stock specific buying.

Cupid Gains 16.11% as Earnings Upgrade Fuels Buying

Cupid emerged as the strongest performer among these five stocks, rising from ₹310.10 on October 5 to ₹360.05 on October 12.

The rally followed a significant upward revision in management's FY27 financial guidance. The company increased its annual revenue target to more than ₹800 crore and raised its net profit guidance to over ₹250 crore.

Management also indicated that September-quarter revenue is expected to exceed ₹200 crore, strengthening expectations of faster earnings growth.

The improved outlook encouraged buying interest, with the stock advancing sharply through the previous week and touching a fresh high during October 12 trading.

However, the stock ended Monday lower, suggesting some profit booking following the recent rally. The earnings upgrade remains the most identifiable catalyst behind its performance.

PTC Industries Rises 14.71% Following ₹1,799 Crore QIP

PTC Industries gained 14.71% during October 5-12. The stock gained 5.34% on Monday's session alone. The buying came on the back of the company’s qualified institutional placement (QIP), which opened on October 6 at a floor price of ₹22,150 a share.

On October 9, the company completed the fundraising, allotting 8,54,700 shares at ₹21,060 each and raising approximately ₹1,799 crore. The fundraising brought attention to PTC's capital requirements as it expands its presence in aerospace, defence and high-precision engineering.

Welspun Corp Jumps 12.43% as US Order Provides Support

Welspun Corp gained 12.43% during the period, rising from ₹2,497.50 on October 5 to ₹2,808 on October 12. The stock surged 6.35% on Monday, extending its recovery despite weakness in the benchmark indices.

One key fundamental development was the company announcing on September 25 a large order in the US for high-frequency induction welded pipes for about USD 412.5 million or almost ₹4,000 crore. The order provided more visibility in revenue for its US line-pipe business serving energy transportation infrastructure projects.

The stock had been highly volatile before rallying sharply, which meant that the recent appreciation also signaled renewed buying after earlier selling pressure.

PNB Housing Finance Gains 8.52% Amid Technical Recovery

PNB Housing Finance rose from Rs 1,105.80 on October 5 to Rs 1,200 on October 12, providing an 8.52 per cent return. Continued buying interest helped the stock rise 3.63% Monday despite weakness in broader financial sector stocks. PNB Housing Finance’s performance seems more related to improving technical momentum rather than companies riding on back of fresh order wins or fundraising announcements.

A recent market analysis pointed to a break out of a falling wedge pattern and a bullish cross over of the 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages. The underpinnings of lending performance helped the technical rebound. The company’s overall loan book grew 15% year-on-year to ₹89,670 crore in Q1 FY27 and its gross non-performing asset ratio remained at 0.95%.

Gallantt Ispat Gains 8.34% Amid High-Volume Buying

Gallantt Ispat climbed 8.34 per cent between October 5 and October 12, after a sharp rebound in trading on Monday. The stock surged roughly 12.80% on Oct 12 on heavy volumes, indicating fresh buying following a recent sell-off.

The rise comes after a period of weakness, with the stock trading near its 52-week low. The recent fall may have attracted buyers looking to enter at lower levels.
