Mutual funds increased their ownership of six BSE 500 companies for four consecutive quarters, according to an ET Data study published on 2 November.
The companies identified were KFin Technologies, Rainbow Children's Medicare, Indus Towers, Timken India, SBI Cards & Payment Services, and Mahindra & Mahindra. Their mutual fund ownership had risen progressively across four quarters beginning with September 2025.
The exercise used several filters rather than simply identifying stocks that received fresh mutual fund purchases during the latest quarter.
Stocks first had to belong to the BSE 500 and show a consistent increase in the share held by mutual funds. Mutual funds also had to own at least 10% of the company's total share capital as of September 2026, while the stock had to be held by at least 20 diversified equity schemes.
Companies were subsequently screened for an average return on equity above 15% over the preceding three years, followed by additional filters covering valuations and company-specific developments.
The data describes historical mutual fund ownership patterns. A rising institutional holding does not by itself indicate how a stock will perform subsequently, and the study should not be interpreted as a recommendation to replicate fund managers' positions.
