The Centre mopped up over ₹81,000 crore through disinvestment, dividends from public sector and through asset monetization in the first seven months of FY27, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management data revealed. Of this, ₹62,124 crore were generated through disinvestment and asset monetization. Proceeds from expected disinvestment of Centre’s holding in IDBI Bank have, however, not been received.
₹62,124 crore identified before the IDBI Bank proceeds
The Government received ₹55,757 crores through disinvestment and ₹6,367 crores through asset monetization in the first seven months of FY27, as per data with Department of Investment and Public Asset Management.
Together, the two identified streams raised ₹62,124 crore. This is equal to almost 78% of the ₹80,000 crore (as projected in the Union Budget under miscellaneous capital receipts) as DIPAM had reported.
The reported total included public-sector dividends, but DIPAM did not assign those dividends a separate rupee amount in the disclosed figures.
The Union Cabinet has approved Fairfax as the strategic buyer for up to 60.72% of IDBI Bank’s equity capital. This approval has been granted on October 14.
The Rs 52,878 crore transaction involves the Centre’s holding of 30.48 per cent and LIC’s 30.24 per cent. The Centre would thus fetch around Rs 26,544 crore from its stake, when the transaction is completed.
FY27 disinvestment receipts exceeded the full-year FY26 figure
DIPAM recorded ₹16,886 crore in disinvestment receipts for all of FY26. Its data showed that the first seven months of FY27 produced more than three times that amount.
Excluding the LIC transaction, stake sales and other disinvestment receipts totalled ₹24,242 crore in FY27, about 44% more than the full-year FY26 tally, according to DIPAM.
The sale of a 6.5% stake in Life Insurance Corporation of India accounted for nearly 57% of disinvestment proceeds in FY27. The Centre retained a 90% stake in the insurer, DIPAM data showed.
Budget records the receipts under miscellaneous capital receipts
The Union Budget no longer sets a separate target for disinvestment proceeds.
Disinvestment receipts are recorded under miscellaneous capital receipts in the Receipt Budget, according to the Union Budget.
Coal India contributed ₹5,542 crore and NHPC contributed ₹4,357 crore to disinvestment receipts in the first seven months of FY27, DIPAM data showed.
