Key Takeaways

  • NSE sought an explanation from Molbio Diagnostics after a sharp increase in trading volumes across the exchanges on October 16.
  • The company said the movement was purely market-driven and that all events requiring disclosure under Regulation 30 had already been reported.
  • Molbio Diagnostics also stated that no announcement or price-sensitive information was pending disclosure to the exchanges.

Molbio Diagnostics Limited has told the National Stock Exchange that the sharp increase in trading volumes in its shares was market-driven, adding that it has no undisclosed price-sensitive information pending with the exchanges.

The clarification, filed on October 19, came in response to an NSE surveillance query dated October 16. The exchange had sought an explanation for what it described as a significant increase in trading volume across the BSE and NSE.

Molbio said it had disclosed every event required to be reported under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations. It also said there was no announcement or price-sensitive information awaiting disclosure.

Trading Volume Jumped on October 16

The exchange query followed a sharp increase in activity in Molbio Diagnostics shares during the October 16 session.

BSE-linked historical market data show that around 83.25 lakh shares changed hands on October 16, compared with about 3.42 lakh shares in the previous session. That works out to trading volume of roughly 24 times the October 15 level.

The stock also closed at ₹1,574.40 on October 16, up 10.15% from ₹1,429.30 a day earlier. During the session, it traded between ₹1,424.70 and ₹1,673.70.

Those market movements prompted the exchange to seek clarification, but the company has not attributed them to any corporate development.

The wording of Molbio's response is therefore narrow. It does not attempt to explain why market participants traded the stock more actively. Instead, the company has stated that the volume movement arose from market activity and that it had complied with its disclosure obligations.

Exchange surveillance queries of this nature are intended to obtain clarification from listed companies when unusual trading patterns emerge. A query by itself does not establish that a company or investor has breached securities regulations.

Molbio Diagnostics' response also does not alter any previously disclosed corporate information. The central point from the October 19 filing is that, according to the company, there was no undisclosed announcement or price-sensitive information behind the sudden jump in trading activity.
