National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) shares made their stock market debut on Thursday, September 24, opening at ₹1,800 on the BSE after a wait of nearly a decade.

The listing price represented a premium of ₹15 over the IPO’s upper price band of ₹1,785. Soon after trading began, the stock moved higher and touched an intraday high of ₹1,845.

The debut followed a ₹22,569-crore public issue that drew strong demand from investors, particularly qualified institutional buyers.

NSE shares open at ₹1,800

NSE shares were priced at ₹1,800 during the pre-open session, which began at 9:45 am. This was ₹15 above the upper end of the IPO price band.

The stock retained the same price when it formally debuted on the BSE before gaining ground in the first few minutes of trading. It subsequently reached an intraday high of ₹1,845.

The listing came after NSE’s IPO opened for subscription on September 17 and closed on September 21.

₹22,569-crore IPO subscribed 5.71 times

NSE’s ₹22,569-crore public issue received bids for 50.58 crore shares against 8.86 crore shares available for subscription.

Overall, the issue was subscribed 5.71 times.

Institutional investors accounted for a substantial part of the demand, with the qualified institutional buyer portion receiving more than 12 times the subscription.

The strong subscription placed the NSE offering among the closely watched public issues in India’s primary market during 2026.

Grey market premium had fallen ahead of listing

Ahead of the market debut, NSE shares were commanding a grey market premium of ₹45, according to market observers cited in the report.

That represented an indicated premium of around 2.5% over the upper IPO price of ₹1,785.

Grey market sentiment towards the issue, however, had weakened considerably in the weeks leading up to the listing.

The NSE IPO’s grey market premium had declined from ₹285 to ₹45 over the preceding 20 sessions, a fall of ₹240.

Grey market premiums are unofficial indicators and can change before an actual stock market listing.

NSE begins its journey as a listed company

The September 24 debut marks the start of NSE’s life as a publicly listed company after a listing process that had remained pending for nearly a decade.

On its first day of trading, the stock opened only ₹15 above the upper IPO price, making for a relatively flat debut despite the strong demand recorded during the subscription period.

Trading picked up soon afterwards, with the share price reaching ₹1,845 within minutes of listing.

The opening session therefore brought two different signals from NSE’s public-market debut: the IPO itself was subscribed 5.71 times, led by strong institutional demand, while the eventual listing premium stood at ₹15 over the ₹1,785 upper issue price.
