Domestic Mutual Funds Participate in Anchor Allocation
Domestic mutual funds received more than half the shares allotted in Tonbo Imaging India's anchor investor round, ahead of the defence technology company's initial public offering.
The Bengaluru-based company raised ₹255.36 crore from anchor investors on 14 October 2026 by allotting 36.48 lakh equity shares at ₹700 apiece, the upper end of its IPO price band.
Of the total shares allotted, 21.05 lakh were allocated to 12 domestic mutual funds. The allocation represented approximately 57.7% of the anchor book by share count.
Participating domestic fund houses included SBI Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak Mutual Fund, Nippon India Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund, Mirae Asset Mutual Fund and Helios Mutual Fund.
Global institutional investors also participated in the allocation. These included BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Temasek Holdings, Prudential Assurance Company and Allianz Global Investors.
The allocations were made at the IPO's upper price-band limit.
IPO Opens on 15 October
Tonbo Imaging's public offering opened for subscription on Thursday, 15 October, and is scheduled to close on Monday, 19 October 2026.
The company has fixed the price band at ₹665–700 per equity share. At the upper end, the issue size is approximately ₹852.2 crore.
The IPO consists entirely of an offer for sale of approximately 1.21 crore equity shares by existing shareholders.
Consequently, Tonbo Imaging will not receive the proceeds from the public issue. The net proceeds, after applicable expenses, will accrue to the selling shareholders.
Investors can apply for a minimum of 21 equity shares and in multiples of 21 thereafter.
Company Operations and Institutional Participation
Tonbo Imaging manufactures defence electronics and imaging equipment used in military and security applications.
Its product portfolio includes thermal imaging systems, weapon sights, targeting equipment, fire-control systems and missile-related imaging technologies.
The company's business is primarily associated with specialised defence electronics, where products are developed for military platforms and government procurement requirements.
The anchor book included domestic asset management companies, global institutional investors and insurance companies.
Four life insurance companies, including HDFC Life Insurance and Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance, collectively received 2.85 lakh shares worth approximately ₹20 crore.
What the Allocation Shows
The anchor allocation establishes the extent of institutional participation ahead of public subscription.
For the mutual fund industry, the transaction is relevant because it identifies the participation of multiple domestic fund houses in a newly offered defence technology business.
An anchor allocation is a pre-IPO institutional subscription. It does not establish how the company's shares will perform after listing.
The eventual portfolio exposure of individual mutual fund schemes will depend on their allocations, subsequent transactions and portfolio disclosures.
