Key Takeaways:

  • ACME Solar's subsidiary has signed a PPA with SECI for 300 MW and 1,200 MWh of assured peak power supply under the FDRE-IX tranche.
  • The contract carries a tariff of ₹6 per unit and has an effective date of October 6, 2026.
  • The project will combine solar generation with battery energy storage and requires at least 90% monthly availability.

ACME Solar Holdings, through subsidiary ACME Greentech Twenty Private Limited, has signed a Power Procurement Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India for 300 MW of assured peak supply backed by 1,200 MWh of energy delivery capacity.

The agreement falls under SECI's Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy, or FDRE-IX, tranche. The contracted tariff is ₹6 per unit, and the PPA carries an effective date of October 6, 2026, according to ACME Solar's October 19 exchange filing.

Unlike a conventional solar project that primarily generates during daylight hours, the contract requires power to be available during non-solar periods.

ACME Solar is required to provide 4 MWh for every MW of contracted capacity for any four hours each day during non-solar hours. Monthly availability must be maintained at a minimum of 90%.

Solar and Battery Storage to Be Combined

Meeting those requirements will involve a combination of solar generation and Battery Energy Storage System technology.

The storage component allows electricity generated from renewable sources to be delivered later, including during evening and night-time peak demand periods. ACME Solar said it also plans to use night-time grid connectivity already available to the company for the project.

The 300 MW contract therefore represents more than the addition of generation capacity alone. Its terms specify when power must be available and set an availability threshold, making dispatchability a central part of the project.

Following the agreement, ACME Solar said its PPA-signed portfolio within projects under construction stands at 4,310 MW. Total contracted capacity under construction is 5,380 MW.

The company separately reported a broader contracted renewable energy portfolio of 8,370 MW spanning solar, battery storage, FDRE, hybrid and wind projects. Operational capacity was approximately 3,123 MW, alongside 4.96 GWh of BESS capacity, according to its October 19 release.

Firm and dispatchable renewable projects are structured to address one of the operating constraints of renewable power: electricity demand does not always coincide with periods of solar or wind generation. Storage and hybrid configurations can shift supply into contracted demand windows.

For ACME Solar's SECI project, the operative numbers are 300 MW of contracted capacity, 1,200 MWh of assured peak supply, four daily non-solar delivery hours and a tariff of ₹6 per unit.
