India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 14.7% in September to more than Rs 2.03 trillion, supported by higher revenue from both domestic activity and imports.
Collections from imports grew at a faster pace during the month, while domestic GST revenue also recorded double-digit growth. Net collections strengthened further after refunds declined compared with the same period last year.
Increase in Domestic GST Collection by 10.1%
In September, the gross GST collection from the domestic activities rose by 10.1% to Rs 1.38 trillion.
While the revenue from imports recorded a higher increase, rising 26% to Rs 65,525 crore in the month under consideration.
All this made the total gross GST collection cross the Rs 2.03 trillion level, marking an increase of 14.7% year-on-year.
Net GST Collection Exceeds Rs 1.76 Trillion
Refunds under GST were at Rs 27,001 crore in September, showing a decrease of 3% on a year-on-year basis.
Taking into account all the refunds, the net GST collection grew by 18.1% year-on-year to more than Rs 1.76 trillion.
The stronger growth in net collections compared with gross collections came alongside the year-on-year decline in refunds during September.
April-September Gross Collections Cross Rs 12.46 Trillion
Gross GST collections have also seen an increase in the initial six months of the current fiscal year.
During the period between April and September, gross GST collections saw an increase of 11.6% and crossed Rs 12.46 trillion.
The net GST collections for the period of six months were at more than Rs 10.66 trillion, witnessing an increase of 10.4%.
This was because the figures for the month of September indicated an increase in year-on-year GST collections, gross GST collections crossing Rs 2.03 trillion and net collections exceeding Rs 1.76 trillion.
