Indian equities opened on a weak note on Thursday, October 8, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.45% to 22,503 around 9:30 AM, as Crude Oil prices remained above $100 per barrel. The investors remain in cautious mode as RBI changes their stance from “neutral” to calibrated tightening.

US Treasury yields continue to weigh on risk sentiment. The rupee also weakened to around ₹96.73 per dollar, close to its record-low levels, adding another concern for the domestic market as higher oil prices can increase the country’s import bill.

Institutional flows remained a key overhang, with Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continuing to sell Indian equities. FIIs were net sellers of ₹6,121 crore on Wednesday, October 7, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided support by buying equities worth ₹4,597 crore.

Amidst this backdrop, here are the top gainers and losers in the Nifty 500 index.

Top Losers for October 8: PAYTM, ENGINERSIN, & JUBLFOOD Fall Up to 9.19%

PAYTM Share Price Falls 9.19%

At 9:30 am, the PAYTM share price was trading at ₹1,572, down 9.19% from its previous close on the NSE. The decline was largely triggered by reports that the proposed UPI Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) rollout may be delayed, raising concerns over a potential new revenue opportunity for digital payment companies.

Trading volumes stood at 1.08 crore shares, compared with the 30-day average volume of 42.1 lakh shares.

Engineers India Ltd Share Price Declines 6.75%

Engineers India Ltd. shares saw selling pressure on Thursday, October 8 with the stock trading at ₹287.50 around 9:30 am, dropping 6.75% during morning trade. JUBLFOOD Share Price Drops 2.79%

Jubilant Foodwork Ltd share faced selling pressure on Thursday, October 8, and was trading at ₹441.25, down 4.2% from its previous close on the NSE, despite reporting 11.9% YoY growth in Q2 FY27 consolidated revenue to ₹2,608.7 crore. Jubilant FoodWorks fell today mainly because of broader market weakness and pressure on consumer stocks. There is no major company-specific negative news behind the move, so the decline appears to be driven more by overall market sentiment and concerns around inflation and consumer spending.

Trading volumes stood at 16.5 lakh shares, compared with the 30-day average volume of 11.8 lakh shares.
