Indian equity markets opened on a subdued note on Monday, October 19, with the Nifty 50 trading at 23,123, down 0.10% in early trade. The marginal decline followed Friday’s strong rally, as profit booking in select heavyweight stocks weighed on the benchmarks. Meanwhile, crude oil prices retreated from elevated levels after the US administration waived key sanctions and tariff provisions related to Russian oil exports, raising expectations of increased global fuel supplies. Brent crude declined 1.79% to USD 107.90 per barrel. The decline came after Brent touched USD 110 per barrel on Friday amid concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East. Although the easing of oil prices and tariff-related concerns offered some relief to India, ongoing geopolitical tensions kept market sentiment cautious.

On the institutional front, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on Friday, purchasing equities worth around Rs 1,166 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth around Rs 3,661 crore. Stock-specific activity remained in focus as investors tracked quarterly earnings announcements, corporate developments and management commentary.

Amidst this backdrop, here are the top gainers and losers in the Nifty 500 index.
