Deepinder Goyal steps down as Eternal Group CEO effective February 1. Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit and founder Deepinder Goyal's replacement as Group CEO of Eternal starting February 1, has been appointed to take over as new Group CEO effective immediately. Eternal notified the stock exchanges about this announcement on January 21st.
Goyal has chosen to stay on the Board as Vice Chairman, pending shareholder approval, so that he may have time to pursue risky new ventures away from the public company, but keep his portfolio aligned with Eternal's best interests. With Dhindsa's assumption of his role, he will oversee the day-to-day management of the organisation during a time of rapid growth.
Reasons for Leadership Transition
Goyal's focus has shifted towards new business ideas, such as Temple wearables, from which he hopes to raise funding and Pixxel space technology, on which he plans to make a personal investment. He has also been involved in the organisation named 'Continue' to conduct research relating to human longevity and LAT Aerospace, which is developing technology for short flights.
These pursuits are well outside of the scope of Eternal but provide the impetus for him to return unvested Employee Stock Option Plans back to the pool, which will help increase retention without dilutive effects on the overall share structure of Eternal.
Dhindsa has control over the day-to-day functions of the organisation under Goyal's input and oversight.
Dhindsa's Proven Track Record
Dhindsa took Blinkit through the acquisition and break-even phase. He has developed the team, culture, supply chain, and rhythm of the company, and continues to operate under a decentralised structure where each Business Leader reports directly to the CEO.
Under Dhindsa's leadership, Blinkit is still one of the fastest-growing businesses of all time and is executing as a founder would.
Eternal's Strategic Continuity
With Goyal joining the board of directors, Eternal has sharpened its focus. The strategic realignment of Eternal's business is in conjunction with its desire to create shareholder value over time.
The fact that Dhindsa still has a stake in the company and has had a successful quarter (Q3) with profit up 73% shows that he will continue to build on this momentum.
The market will certainly be watching how Dhindsa's leadership of Blinkit continues as Eternal grows and expands.
