GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,696 on June 1, up 10 points or 0.04%, indicating a flat opening for Indian benchmark indices.

The indication comes after a weak close in the previous session. On May 29, the Nifty 50 declined 359 points, or 1.50%, to settle at 23,547.75, while the BSE Sensex fell 1,092 points, or 1.44%, to close at 74,775.74.

Asian Markets Trade Mixed

Markets across Asia-Pacific opened on a mixed note on Monday. South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.31%, while the small-cap Kosdaq index declined 1.58%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.17%, whereas the Topix index slipped 0.3%.

Futures linked to Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index stood at 25,098, lower than the benchmark’s previous close of 25,182.

U.S. Futures Remain Largely Unchanged

Futures tied to major U.S. equity indices were little changed in early trade. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were lower by 30 points. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq-100 futures traded flat.

Crude Oil Moves Higher

Crude oil prices traded higher on Monday morning. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose about 2.9% to $89.90 per barrel. Brent crude futures gained 1.12% to $93.08 per barrel. On COMEX, crude oil prices were down 1.28% at $87.76 per barrel.

Gold And Silver Prices

The price of 24-carat gold in India stood at ₹1,56,530 per 10 grams, down 0.57% from the previous day. In Delhi, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,56,260 per 10 grams.

The price of 18-carat gold in India was ₹1,17,397 per 10 grams. In Dubai, 24-carat gold was quoted at ₹1,49,590 per 10 grams. On COMEX, gold traded at $4,569.90 per ounce, up 0.83%.

Silver prices in India declined 0.97% to ₹2.67 lakh per kilogram. On COMEX, silver was trading 0.43% lower at $75.58 per troy ounce.

FII, DII And Currency Data

According to provisional NSE data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹21,105.86 crore on May 29.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of shares worth ₹16,764.14 crore during the session. The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) was up 0.13% at 99.04. The rupee appreciated 0.70% to close at 95.03 against the U.S. dollar on May 29.

Sectoral Performance

Among sectoral themes, electronics stocks recorded the highest rise in market capitalisation on Friday, gaining 1.13%. Packaging and data centre stocks also advanced during the session.
