InterGlobe Aviation share price dropped more than 3% during Tuesday’s morning session after a media report said IndiGo cofounder Rahul Bhatia has begun preparing his son, Madhav Bhatia, for a bigger role in the company’s leadership.
At 11:06 am, the InterGlobe Aviation share price was trading at ₹5,124 on the NSE, down 3.41% from its previous close.
Report Points to Leadership Grooming
According to The Economic Times, Madhav Bhatia has been attending IndiGo’s executive committee meetings over the past few months. The report said he is being mentored by senior executives across different functions as part of a structured succession planning process.
The development comes at a time when the airline is undergoing changes in its top management.
Leadership Transition Underway
As per The Economic Times, industry veteran Willie Walsh is set to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer next month following the resignation of Pieter Elbers in March.
The report also said promoter involvement in the airline’s operations has increased since the operational disruption in December, when a shortage of pilots resulted in the cancellation of more than 3,000 flights over the course of a week.
Rahul Bhatia’s Reported Approach
Quoting a person familiar with the matter, The Economic Times reported that Rahul Bhatia wants his son to gain a detailed understanding of the business and establish his own credentials before taking on a larger leadership position.
The report added that Rahul Bhatia has been closely involved in the airline’s operations as interim CEO since December. It also said he has brought several trusted executives from InterGlobe Enterprises into key leadership roles within IndiGo as part of the ongoing management transition.
Stock Under Pressure
The report coincided with weakness in the InterGlobe Aviation share price, making the stock one of the notable laggards in early trade. Investors are expected to monitor any official communication from the company regarding its leadership structure, while also tracking developments related to the ongoing transition at India’s largest airline by market share.
