The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) reported a 6.7% year-on-year increase in net profit for the quarter ended June, aided by higher trading volumes during a period of elevated market volatility. The improved financial performance comes as the exchange moves closer to its proposed initial public offering (IPO), expected later this year.

According to the exchange’s financial statement, net profit rose to ₹3,120 crore in the June quarter from ₹2,920 crore in the corresponding period last year. Total revenue also increased 13% year-on-year during the quarter.

Trading Revenue Registers Double-Digit Growth

Revenue generated from trading operations stood at ₹4,100 crore, marking a 12.8% increase compared with the same quarter a year earlier.

Higher market participation during the period contributed to the increase in trading volumes. Volatility across financial markets, influenced by global developments, supported activity on the country’s largest stock exchange.

IPO Preparations Continue

The latest quarterly performance comes as NSE advances plans for its long-awaited IPO. As per reports, existing shareholders are targeting a share sale of up to $3 billion through the proposed public issue.

The exchange has been working towards completing regulatory requirements ahead of the listing process. The stronger earnings may add to investor interest as preparations for the IPO continue.

SEBI Gives In-Principle Nod To Settlement

NSE also said that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has granted in-principle approval for the settlement of regulatory proceedings related to the alleged unfair market access matter dating back around a decade.

According to the exchange, it has agreed to pay ₹1,490 crore to SEBI as part of the proposed settlement. The exchange clarified that the settlement will be completed without admitting or denying the allegations related to the case.

Financial Performance Reflects Higher Market Activity

The June quarter reflected sustained participation across the equity derivatives market, contributing to higher trading income and overall revenue growth for the exchange. Alongside its financial performance, progress on resolving long-pending regulatory matters marks another step in NSE’s preparations for its proposed market debut.

Given the improved financials, increased trading revenues, and developments on the regulatory side, the stock exchange continues to concentrate on completing all necessary formalities before embarking on an IPO.
