Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) rose nearly 3% in early trade on Wednesday after the company reported June sales that surpassed market expectations across its automotive and tractor businesses.

At around 10:01 am, the stock was trading at ₹3,161, up 3%, making it the top performer on the Nifty 50 index. The rally also lifted the Nifty Auto index, which gained 1.61%, while the broader market traded higher. The Sensex advanced 379 points, or 0.5%, to 76,858, and the Nifty 50 rose 121 points to 23,987.

Auto And Tractor Sales Outperform Estimates

M&M reported total automobile sales of 1.06 lakh units in June, exceeding the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of 96,400 units. Tractor sales also came in ahead of expectations at 58,177 units, compared with the market estimate of 43,400 units.

The better-than-expected performance for the month was driven by strong demand across different product segments like passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three-wheelers and tractors.

Passenger Vehicles, Exports Drive Growth

Passenger vehicle sales increased 28% year-on-year to 60,393 units in June from 47,306 units in the corresponding month last year. Three-wheeler sales registered even stronger growth, rising 63% year-on-year to 13,820 units from 8,454 units a year earlier.

Exports also recorded a sharp improvement during the month, more than doubling to 5,918 units compared with 2,634 units in June last year, reflecting stronger overseas demand.

Overall automobile sales rose 37% year-on-year, highlighting broad-based growth across the company’s automotive portfolio.

Tractor Business Remains Strong

The company’s farm equipment business also delivered a solid performance during the month. Total tractor sales climbed 12% year-on-year to 58,177 units, comfortably exceeding analysts’ expectations. This growth fueled further demand for agricultural equipment, which continues to be one of the major drivers of M&M’s business.

The combination of increased dispatches of passenger vehicles and sturdy tractor sales helped drive the positive month-on-month volume performance of the company.

Sales Performance Enhances Investor Sentiment

The June sales data improved the investor sentiment about the performance of Mahindra & Mahindra.

Growth across passenger vehicles, exports, and tractors underscored the company’s diversified revenue base and supported gains in the stock during Wednesday’s session. The better-than-expected dispatch numbers also positioned M&M among the strongest performers in the auto sector at the start of the month.
