The price of fuel at government-owned retail stations was constant on April 7, without any variation in the prices of petrol and diesel despite the high international prices of crude, according to OMCs.

Fuel Prices Across Metro Cities

City Petrol (₹/litre) Diesel (₹/litre)
New Delhi ₹94.77 ₹87.67
Mumbai ₹103.50 ₹90.03
Kolkata ₹105.45 ₹92.02
Bengaluru ₹102.92 ₹90.99

Global Crude Prices Remain Elevated

Global crude oil prices continued to trade near multi-year highs, with Brent crude hovering around $110 per barrel, according to Reuters. The increase follows supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia and restricted flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Aramco raised the official selling price of its Arab Light crude for Asia to a premium of $19.50 per barrel above regional benchmarks for May shipments, according to Bloomberg.

Recent Fuel Price Changes

Indian Oil Corporation increased the price of XP100 petrol in Delhi to ₹160 per litre on April 1 from ₹149, marking a rise of ₹11 per litre. The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder was also increased by ₹195.50 to ₹2,078.50 in Delhi, as per oil company data.

The central government reduced excise duty on petrol by ₹10 per litre to ₹3 per litre and removed excise duty on diesel effective March 27, 2026, according to official notifications.

Supply Disruptions Continue To Impact Market

The global oil supply is still affected by the disturbances occurring at the Strait of Hormuz, which is a significant route for oil transport. There have been fewer ships moving through this channel, resulting in increased global crude oil prices.

State-controlled fuel prices continue to be unaffected at this point. Global crude prices will continue to affect the local fuel market.
