Cities where prices have increased include Jaipur, with an increase of ₹0.22 for petrol at ₹104.94 per litre and ₹0.20 for diesel at ₹90.41 per litre. Lucknow had a slight increase in diesel prices of ₹0.03 at ₹87.86 per litre, while diesel prices in Patna were ₹91.49 per litre without any changes.

In the southern region, Thiruvananthapuram had diesel prices of ₹96.48 per litre, increasing by ₹0.27, indicating one of the sharpest daily increases among tracked cities.

Global Crude Prices Remain Elevated

Brent crude prices climbed above $90 per barrel amid uncertainty surrounding a possible second round of talks between the U.S. and Iran, according to ANI. Ambiguity in geopolitical situations in West Asia has been one of the reasons for the instability in the oil markets.

The Strait of Hormuz remains an important focal point in global energy sectors, with the region accounting for almost 20% of the world’s petroleum transportation activities. Events taking place in the region have the potential to affect the benchmark prices of crude oil.

The recent trend in crude oil prices can be attributed to the increasing geopolitical risks that have come about due to issues related to supply lines and diplomacy.

In spite of high crude oil prices all over the world, the prices of fuel at retail levels in India remained stable on April 22.
