In Delhi, the price of petrol remained unchanged at ₹94.77 a liter and diesel at ₹87.67 a liter.

Impact Of Excise Duty Cut

The stability in prices is a direct outcome of a recent cut in excise duty by the central government that has helped offset higher crude oil prices. Despite volatility in international markets, prices at pumps have remained largely unchanged in major metro cities.

Private Retailer Price Revision

Nayara Energy increased petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre at its outlets, according to PTI. Petrol at Nayara pumps is now priced at ₹100.71 per litre, while diesel stands at ₹91.31 per litre.

Global Crude Oil Prices

Crude oil prices remained elevated amid geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the U.S. Brent crude traded around $107.10 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was near $93.73 per barrel on March 27, as per market data.

Earlier this month, crude prices had touched $119 per barrel before moderating to around $100 per barrel levels.

Import Dependence And Supply Concerns

India imports about 88% of its crude oil requirements and nearly half of its natural gas needs, with a large share routed through the Strait of Hormuz, according to PTI. Disruptions in the region have affected shipping movement and insurance coverage for tankers.

City fuel prices are still shaped by the ebb and flow of the global crude oil market, as well as local government decisions. A recent example of this is the recent cut in excise duties.
