Prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged in all major Indian cities on March 30, 2026. There was no change in the key metro city prices of petrol and diesel, even as crude oil prices have surged well above $110 a barrel.

Fuel Prices In Major Cities

Fuel prices in metro cities were unchanged, with no revision in prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

City Petrol (₹/Litre) Change (₹) Diesel (₹/Litre) Change (₹)
New Delhi ₹94.77 0.00 ₹87.67 0.00
Mumbai ₹103.54 0.00 ₹90.03 0.00
Kolkata ₹105.41 0.00 ₹92.02 0.00
Chennai ₹100.85 0.00 ₹92.39 0.00
Bengaluru ₹102.96 0.00 ₹90.99 0.00
Hyderabad ₹107.46 0.00 ₹95.70 0.00

In Delhi, petrol continued at ₹94.77 per litre and diesel at ₹87.67 per litre with no revision, as per official data.

Excise Duty Cut And Retail Price Stability

The continued stability in retail fuel prices follows the Centre’s excise duty reduction of ₹10 per litre on both petrol and diesel announced on March 27, 2026, according to Reuters. Post revision, excise duty stands at ₹3 per litre on petrol and nil on diesel.

Despite the tax reduction, retail prices have remained unchanged as state-run oil marketing companies have adjusted pricing to manage higher crude procurement costs, according to Reuters.

Global Crude Oil Prices Surge

The global crude oil prices have remained firm due to the geopolitical issues in West Asia. The Brent crude price was in the range of $112 to $113 per barrel, whereas the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude price was in the range of $99 to $100 per barrel on March 30, as per the Reuters data.

Earlier in March, crude prices had touched as high as $119 per barrel before moderating, reflecting continued volatility in global energy markets.

Supply Disruptions And Import Dependence

The rise in crude prices is due to an increase in crude prices due to disruptions in the Hormuz Strait, which is an important global crude oil shipping route, transporting almost 20% of the world's oil, according to Reuters.

India is dependent on crude oil imports for 88% of its requirements and 50% of its natural gas requirements, which makes it highly vulnerable to crude oil supply disruptions in the world.

The current retail rates of petrol and diesel in major cities are balancing higher crude oil prices with other measures such as the latest cut in excise duty, with no immediate changes being seen at petrol pumps.
