U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the suspension of strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure by 10 days until April 6, 2026, citing ongoing diplomatic discussions with Tehran, according to official statements.

The announcement, made on March 26 (local time), follows an earlier five-day pause ordered on March 23, as negotiations between the U.S. and Iran continue amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, now in its fourth week.

Pause Extended Following Iran’s Request

According to statements shared by Trump on Truth Social, the extension was granted at the request of the Iranian government. The pause will remain in effect until 8 PM Eastern Time on April 6, 2026.

Trump stated that discussions between the two countries were ongoing and described them as progressing, while also reiterating that the decision was based on the nature of the ongoing engagements.

The U.S. had earlier warned of potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure if access through the Strait of Hormuz was not restored. On March 22, Trump had set a 48-hour deadline, threatening action against key energy facilities if the route remained restricted.

Diplomatic Efforts Are Still Underway

This extension is a result of ongoing diplomatic talks between the two countries. Last week, the United States presented a framework of 15 points intended to ease tensions. This framework covered various issues such as nuclear activities, missiles, and access to maritime routes.

According to reports by Reuters, this framework also covered issues such as uranium enrichment and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital route for global crude oil transportation.

Iran has also laid down its terms for the de-escalation of tensions. However, this information is not available.

Ongoing Conflict And Strategic Importance

Despite this lull in strikes on energy infrastructure, the Israeli-Iranian conflict has been ongoing during this period.

The Israeli-Iranian conflict has had an impact on the region’s stability and has a major impact on the world’s energy supply.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major concern in this context in terms of the energy supply routes. The U.S. has continued to pressure for its reopening.

The extension of this lull in strikes suggests that there is a continued attempt at diplomacy, even in the context of this conflict.
