GST on TV is an important topic for buyers and sellers of televisions in India. With changes announced by the GST Council, the tax structure on televisions has become simpler and more uniform. This has directly affected pricing, billing, and overall consumer costs.

GST on TV Sale in India

Under the Goods and Services Tax framework, the sale or lease of a television is treated as a taxable supply. Televisions are not listed under any exemption category. This means GST applies to every TV sold, whether through retail stores or online platforms. The price displayed to customers usually includes GST, making it easier to understand the final cost.

Latest GST Rate on TV

As per the 56th GST Council meeting, GST on TV has been standardised. From 22 September 2025, all televisions are taxed at 18% GST. Earlier, smaller TVs attracted a lower rate, while larger screens were taxed higher. This change has removed size-based differences and brought consistency across the market.

Impact of GST on TV Prices

Before GST, televisions had many different taxes like excise duty and VAT. These taxes were added one after another, which made TVs more expensive. GST replaced all these taxes with one single tax. For bigger TVs, the tax rate dropped from 28% to 18%, so they now cost less than before. For smaller TVs, the tax rate stayed the same, but prices are now easier to understand.

Final Cost for Consumers

The final price of a TV under GST is worked out on the selling price, including any accessories. An 18% GST is added to this price. This simple system helps buyers clearly see how much tax they are paying and prevents hidden charges.

Overall, GST on TV has made the tax system simpler and prices clearer. It has also made things easier for sellers and helped buyers understand costs better.
