Key Takeaways
- Of 52 overseas equity and equity-linked schemes with available data, 43 recorded negative one-month returns as of 2 November.
- Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 FoF fell 11.30% over one month, while Edelweiss US Technology Equity FoF declined 10.75%.
- Longer-term data was comparatively stronger, with 46 of 51 schemes with available one-year numbers remaining positive.
Indian mutual funds providing overseas equity exposure recorded broad one-month declines as weakness in US technology stocks weighed on international portfolios.
An analysis of ACE MF data as of 2 November showed that 43 of 52 overseas equity and equity-linked schemes with available one-month return data were in negative territory. Only nine recorded gains over the period.
Technology-heavy portfolios were among the more sharply affected. Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 FoF declined 11.30% over one month, while Edelweiss US Technology Equity FoF lost 10.75%. Mirae Asset Global X AI & Technology ETF FoF was down 8.43%.
The backdrop included a 2.86% fall in the Nasdaq Composite on 30 October as investors reassessed high levels of artificial-intelligence spending by large technology companies.
Returns varied materially according to investment strategy. Edelweiss US Value Equity Offshore Fund, for example, gained 2.81% during the same one-month period even as its technology-focused counterpart fell by more than 10%.
The figures are historical absolute returns for the period considered and should not be read as forecasts. Overseas funds can differ considerably by index, geography, sector exposure and currency movements, so performance across schemes need not move uniformly.
