On the Nifty 50 Healthcare, IT, and pharma sectors witnessed selling pressure, while PSU banks, financial services, and consumer durables stocks climbed. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 185.24 points, or 0.33%, to 55,381.17, according to provisional closing data. The Nifty 50 index lost 61.80 points to 16,522.75, or 0.37%.

The NSE's India VIX, which measures market expectations of near-term volatility, increased 1.79% to 20.85.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index dipped 0.10% in the broader market, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.62%. The market had a favourable breadth. On the BSE, 1,848 shares increased in value while 1,479 declined, and 135 shares remained unchanged.

The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) was 54.6 in May, unchanged from 54.7 in April, indicating that the industry is continuing to recover. The reading above above-50.0 was the twelfth in as many months, indicating that operating conditions have improved significantly.

Today, the Nifty IT index fell 1.41% to 29260.75. Over the last month, the index has dropped by 6.00%. Coforge Ltd lost 3.02%, Tech Mahindra Ltd fell 2.85%, and Mphasis Ltd was down 2.47% among the members. In comparison to the benchmark Nifty 50 index, which has increased by 6.09% in the last year, the Nifty IT index has increased by 8.00%. The Nifty Pharma index is down 1.27% on the day, while the Nifty Realty index is down 1.12%.
