Indian equity markets traded higher on Wednesday, September 16, after the sharp sell-off in the previous session. The Sensex gained around 300 points, while the Nifty 50 moved above the 23,200 mark in morning trade.

Buying interest was visible across FMCG and financial stocks, with FMCG shares rebounding after four consecutive sessions of losses. PSU bank stocks also advanced during the session.

The recovery came as crude oil prices eased from recent highs, offering some relief to market sentiment. However, investors remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision later in the day.

The broader market remained under pressure, with mid-cap and small-cap indices trading lower despite gains in the benchmark indices.
