GIFT Nifty forecast a muted start for Indian stocks on Monday, June 29, with the future index trading around 5 points, or 0.02%, above the previous day’s closing price. Investors are monitoring geopolitical developments in West Asia, crude oil prices and overseas market trends for further direction.
Domestic equities ended the previous session with modest gains. On Friday, the Nifty 50 rose 34 points, or 0.14%, to settle at 24,056, while the BSE Sensex added 109 points, or 0.14%, to close at 77,100.47.
GIFT Nifty Opens Flat
The early indications suggest benchmark indices may open the week on a cautious note, GIFT Nifty The futures contract remained largely unchanged, reflecting restrained sentiment after renewed tensions involving the U.S. and Iran over the weekend.
Asian Markets Trade Mixed
Equity markets across Asia opened with mixed performance as investors assessed the latest geopolitical developments. Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.35%, while the Topix index gained 0.43%. South Korea’s Kospi slipped 2.29% at the open, whereas the Kosdaq advanced 0.97%.
U.S. Futures Recover
U.S. index futures edged higher after the latest developments in West Asia. Dow Jones futures rose 156 points, or 0.3%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.5%. Nasdaq-100 futures also traded 0.44% higher.
In the previous session, U.S. markets ended mixed. The Nasdaq fell 4.6% and the S&P 500 declined 2%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.6%.
Crude Oil, Gold And Silver
Crude oil prices moved higher in early trade as investors monitored potential supply risks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures traded 0.92% higher at $69.87 per barrel. Brent crude futures for August delivery gained 0.51% to $72.36 per barrel, remaining below the $75 level.
Gold prices weakened in international trade. COMEX gold declined 0.78% to $4,064.20 per ounce. In India, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,44,330 per 10 grams, while the Delhi rate stood at ₹1,44,080 per 10 grams.
Silver also traded lower globally, with COMEX silver falling 1.70% to $58.21 per troy ounce. Domestic silver prices, however, were quoted at ₹2.23 lakh per kg.
Institutional Activity And Currency
According to provisional NSE data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth ₹383.76 crore in the previous session. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained net buyers of ₹5,747.75 crore.
The U.S. Dollar Index traded around 101.36 in early trade. The Indian rupee had strengthened 0.29% in the previous session to close at 94.40 against the U.S. dollar.
With GIFT Nifty indicating little change before the opening bell, investors are expected to remain focused on overseas developments, crude oil movements and institutional flows for cues through the day’s trading session.
