List of top 5 gainers and losers in the Midcap and Smallcap segment for the week from July 15 to 21, 2022.

As bulls took charge of Dalal Street with FII inflows rendering positive sentiment, benchmark indices gained almost 4% during the week which got reflected in the broader market as well. 

Benchmark Index S&P BSE Sensex closed the week at 55681.95 which was higher by 3.6% or 1921 points.

The broader markets also witnessed positive momentum during the week with S&P BSE Mid Cap closing up by 3.7% at 23,701.35. The S&P BSE Small Cap also ended at 26,716.56 up by 3.6% or 937 points.

The shares of this specialty chemical company have delivered a weekly return of 21.06% from the levels of Rs 44.15 to Rs 53.45. ASM Stage 1 category stock continues to be highly volatile swinging from biggest gain to biggest loser in the midcap segment. The shares of BCG are regularly locked in upper and lower circuits of 5%.

The laggards of the midcap segment were led by Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd. The shares of the company fell 5.04% from Rs 68.4 to Rs 64.95. Shares of the leading media conglomerate witnessed a selloff on the back of weak Q1FY23 results posted on July 19. Net revenue fell by 17.35% to Rs 1339.89 crore as compared to the March quarter. The company reported EBITDA and Net Profit at Rs 46.20 crore and Rs 12.60 crore, which were down by 82.6% and 93.5%, respectively on a sequential basis.

 The top gainer in the Smallcap segment was PTC Industries Ltd. The stock surged 33.24% for the week from the levels of Rs 1388.09 to Rs 1849.45. The Board of PTC Industries at its meeting held on 15 July 2022 has approved the terms of the rights issue (Issue size Rs 7.85 crore) having an entitlement ratio of 3 rights equity shares for every 2 equity shares held by the shareholder as on record date (July 22, 2022). This had triggered heavy buying at the counter. The rights issue price has been set at Rs 10 per equity share.

The losers of small cap space were led by Orient Bell Ltd. The shares of the company fell from Rs 738 to Rs 665.35 registering a loss of 9.84 % in the stock price. The ceramic and floor tile company from the house of Somany Group posted its Q1FY23 results which showed degrowth on a sequential basis. Net sales fell by 28.35% to Rs 153.19 crore as compared to March quarter. The company reported EBITDA and Net Profit at Rs 12.46 crore and Rs 6.77 crore were down by 51.9% and 58.2% respectively QoQ . As a result, the shares of Orient Bell witnessed a selloff on the counter on July 20 and 21, with a cumulative loss in 2 days of 17.4%.
