Will BSE and NSE Remain Open or Closed on March 14 for Holi?

The Indian stock markets will observe a one-day closure this week due to Holi, resulting in a holiday-truncated trading period.
Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain shut on Friday, March 14, 2025, in accordance with the stock market holiday calendar.

On this day, trading across key segments—including equity, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB)—will be suspended. Additionally, there will be no transactions in currency derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) due to the festival observance.
Stock exchanges in India follow a set schedule for holidays, during which no trading activity is conducted. These closures apply to various financial instruments, including stocks, commodities, and bonds.
Stock Market Holidays in 2025
A total of 14 stock market holidays have been scheduled for 2025. The markets were earlier closed on February 26 for Mahashivratri. Below is the complete list of upcoming holidays:

Impact of Holiday-Truncated Trading Week
A shortened trading week can lead to lower trading volumes and increased market volatility. Investors often adjust their positions in advance to account for potential fluctuations, as gaps in trading days can influence price movements.
In particular, the derivatives market may experience adjustments as traders square off positions before the holiday to avoid exposure to unexpected market swings when trading resumes. Global cues and economic developments during the break can also impact market trends upon reopening.
MCX to Remain Open for Evening Trading
While the stock markets will be closed, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will operate in the evening session, allowing traders to continue trading in commodities such as gold, silver, crude oil, and agricultural products.
The commodity market often sees fluctuations based on global factors, and continued trading during the evening session ensures that traders can react to international market movements without waiting for the next full trading day.
