Indian equity indices were largely unchanged in early trade on Thursday as a fall in crude oil prices balanced selling pressure after the sharp rally seen in the previous session.
The Nifty 50 traded 0.12% higher at 24,360.35, while the Sensex was up 0.03% at 77,972.08 during morning trade. Both benchmark indices had gained nearly 1.2% in the previous session.
Lower Oil Prices Support Sentiment
Asian markets moved higher after reports indicated that the U.S. and Iran were moving closer towards a possible peace agreement linked to the ongoing regional conflict.
Brent crude prices, which had declined 7.8% in the previous session, traded near $102 per barrel during Asian market hours.
The fall in crude oil prices is viewed positively for India since the nation has a considerable dependence on imported crude oil. The fall could help lower the levels of inflation and improve company profit margins.
Auto Stocks Lead Sectoral Gains
The Nifty Auto index gained around 1.4% during the session, supported by buying in automobile shares after quarterly earnings announcements.
Bajaj Auto shares rose nearly 3% after the company reported stronger March-quarter earnings. The company posted standalone profit after tax of ₹2,746 crore for Q4 FY26, according to its exchange filing.
Mahindra & Mahindra gained around 2%, extending gains for a third consecutive session after reporting quarterly earnings growth.
Paytm Shares Rise; IT And PSU Banks Slip
Paytm parent One97 Communications climbed about 5.5% after the company reported a quarterly net profit for the March quarter.
Meanwhile, the Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT indices declined nearly 0.4% each after recording gains in the previous session.
Broader markets remained positive, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices rising around 0.5% each.
Godrej Consumer Shares Decline
Godrej Consumer Products shares fell around 5% despite reporting higher quarterly profit. Brokerages including CLSA, Macquarie and Citi highlighted concerns related to near-term margins due to rising input costs, according to market reports.
During the trading session, Indian markets continued to see stock-specific movement due to quarterly earnings, commodity price trends, and events happening around the world.
