Petrol, Diesel And LPG Prices Hold Steady On May 22 Across Major Cities

Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across most parts of the country on May 22 following the latest revisions implemented earlier this week by state-owned oil marketing companies.

Retail fuel rates in several metro cities continued to stay elevated, with petrol prices remaining above ₹100 per litre in cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The latest stability in prices comes after two consecutive rounds of fuel price increases in May amid rising crude oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) said fuel and LPG supplies across India continue without disruption despite higher demand at select retail outlets.

Fuel Prices In Major Cities

Fuel prices were revised upward earlier this week after oil marketing companies raised petrol and diesel rates by around 90 paise per litre in several cities. The hike followed another increase of nearly ₹3 per litre announced on May 15.

Oil Companies Assure Adequate Supply

State-run fuel retailers issued statements assuring consumers that fuel availability remains sufficient across their nationwide networks.

IOCL said supplies across its retail outlets continue to remain adequate and operations are functioning normally. The company stated that temporary pressure at a few locations caused by sudden demand shifts was being managed through regular replenishment.

BPCL said uninterrupted LPG deliveries were maintained between May 11 and May 20 across domestic and commercial segments. The company added that its supply chain continues to operate round the clock to support demand.

HPCL also said fuel supplies in Rajasthan, including Jaipur, remain stable with regular stock replenishment at retail outlets.

LPG Prices Remain Unchanged

Domestic LPG cylinder prices remained unchanged on May 22 across major cities. A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continued to cost ₹913 in New Delhi, ₹939 in Kolkata, ₹912.50 in Mumbai and ₹928.50 in Chennai.

Commercial LPG cylinder prices also remained at elevated levels. A 19-kg commercial cylinder was priced at ₹3,071.50 in Delhi, ₹3,202 in Kolkata and ₹3,024 in Mumbai.

Fuel Consumption Rises

HPCL shared provisional sales data for May 1-20, showing a sharp rise in fuel consumption. Petrol sales increased 19% to 50,575 KL from 42,501 KL recorded earlier. Diesel sales rose 24.5% to 1,14,422 KL compared with 91,894 KL in the corresponding period, indicating higher transport and industrial demand during the month.
