The Indian markets closed higher on August 1, with the Nifty 50 rising 0.64% to 24,722.75 and the Sensex up 0.52% at 81,018.72, led by strong gains in Hero Motocorp and Tata Steel. While top losers included Power Grid Corp and HDFC Bank, global markets showed mixed trends as Asian indices saw declines and European markets advanced mid-session. Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors were net sellers, offset by Domestic Institutional Investors’ robust buying activity.

  • Indian Indices End Higher: Nifty 50 gained 0.64% to close at 24,722.75, while Sensex rose 0.52% to 81,018.72. Gift Nifty also advanced 0.49%, with Nifty Bank remaining flat.

  • Top Stock Movers: Hero Motocorp led the gains with a 5.2% jump, followed by Tata Steel (+4.28%) and Bharat Electrical (+3.27%). Power Grid Corp was the biggest loser, down 1.13%, alongside HDFC Bank and ONGC.

ITC Delivers Mixed Q1 Results

ITC reported a 20.6% year-on-year surge in revenue to ₹19,749 crore, beating market estimates. However, EBITDA growth was more modest at 2.9%, totaling ₹6,261 crore, reflecting margin pressures in select segments.

Tata Power Sees Profit Uptick

Tata Power posted a 9% rise in consolidated net profit, reaching ₹1,060 crore for the June quarter, up from ₹970 crore a year ago, supported by stable performance across its generation and distribution businesses.

LIC Housing Finance Reports Modest Growth

LIC Housing Finance reported a 4.4% increase in net profit, at ₹1,364 crore for Q1 FY26, compared to ₹1,306 crore in the same period last year, amid steady demand for home loans.
