Lot size changes in F&O effective from 29th April

The Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from time to time, modifies the lot sizes of various F&O contracts. Currently, trading in F&O is permitted in 4 indices and 199 stocks where the exchange offers the facility to trade in futures and in options. As per the latest circular issued on 31st March 2022, there are going to be a number of changes in the lot sizes applicable to futures and options contracts. Changes pertain to stock F&O contracts.

Methodology of lot size revisions in F&O

Here is the market lots for various stock derivative contracts have been modified.

Here are some important points to be noted about this revision.

1. The circular shall be effective from 29th April 2022, which will be the first day of the May 2022 contract i.e. the day after April contract expiry.

2. In the case of lot sizes being revised downward in multiples of the old lot size, the revisions in lot size will be effective from the May-22 contract itself.

3. However, in the case where the lot sizes are being revised upwards, or where they are revised downward (but not in exact multiples), only the far month contracts i.e. Jul-22 contracts will be modified in terms of lot size. In both these cases, the May-22 and the Jun-22 contracts will continue to have the old lot sizes only.

4. For the purpose of the computation, the average of the closing price of the underlying has been considered for the one-month period i.e. 01st Mar 2022 to 31st Mar 2022.
