Indian equity market is trading sideways today owing to mixed global cues.

As Wall Street indices closed lower amid negative global cues, participants were worried about rising inflation and Federal Reserve’s aggressive comments on it. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.67% and S&P 500 slipped 0.63%. Along similar lines, Nasdaq too fell by 0.41%. SGX Nifty indicated a negative opening with a loss of 24 points. Indian headline indicators Sensex and Nifty 50 were trading sideways.

Expectedly, in India, the market strength was neutral as 1,885 equities increased on the BSE, whereas 1,292 declined, and 158 shares remained unchanged. Around 225 stocks are locked in the upper circuit, whereas 159 were in their lower circuit.

At 12:15 pm, BSE Sensex was trading upwards by 0.08% and was at a level of 55,610.96. The top gaining stocks on Sensex were NTPC Ltd, HDFC and Tata Steel Ltd. The stocks trading downwards were Nestle India, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The BSE Midcap rose 0.17% and was trading at a level of 23,183.01, while Smallcap index jumped by 0.78% and was trading at a level of 26,576.70.  

The Nifty 50 index was trading at 16,580.05 points, fell by 0.03%. On Nifty 50 index, the top shares trading in green were JSW Steel, NTPC Ltd and Coal India Ltd. On the other hand, stocks that witnessed a major price fall were Bajaj Auto, Hindalco Industries and Apollo Hospitals Ltd.

On the sectoral front, all of the indices were trading sideways with BSE Metal and BSE Energy being the top performers.
