Asian markets were mixed following a drop on Wall Street amid rising inflation and fears on the account of unemployment. Australia’s ASX All Ordinaries fell with India’s Sensex whereas others managed to trade in green. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was surprisingly performing well and rose more than 1.25% as Alibaba shares soared after the earnings report.

SGX Nifty indicated a gap down opening with a loss of 84 points. Indian equity benchmark indices opened with minor cuts tracking weak global sentiments. The market strength was poor as 1,161 equities increased on the BSE, whereas 1,996 declined, and 174 shares remained unchanged. Around 208 stocks are locked in the upper circuit, whereas 204 were in their lower circuit.

At 11:20 am, the Indian benchmark indicator Sensex was trading at a level of 55,484.13, down by 0.51%. The top gainers of Sensex were NTPC Ltd, Tata Steel and IndusInd Bank. BSE Midcap index was trading at a level of 22,554.16, fell by 0.97%. BSE Smallcap index was trading at 26,134.75, declined by 0.95%. The Nifty 50 was trading at 16,504.05, down by 0.48%. The top-performing companies were Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, HDFC Life Insurance and JSW Steel Ltd.

Of the 19 BSE sectoral indices, 15 fell, with BSE IT and BSE Realty being the top losers of the session. BSE Oil and Gas edged up 0.24%, whereas Oil India surged more than 5% and was near its 52-week high.
