The top five gainers of Nifty 50 were ONGC, Cipla, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Bharti Airtel, and ICICI Bank. Whereas, the top five stocks pulling down the index are Divis Laboratories, Bajaj Finance, Hindalco, Bajaj Finserv, and Wipro.

BSE Midcap index is trading at a level of 24,373.36, down by 2.32%. The top three gainers of the index include Cholamandalam Investment and Fin Co, Emami, and Oil India. Each of these scrips was up by more than 0.50%. The top three stocks dragging the index include Info Edge (India), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, and Aditya Birla Financial Services.

BSE Smallcap index is trading at 29,058.67, down by 3.03%. The top three gainers are Sharda Cropchem (up by 13%), India Tourism Development Corporation, and CSB Bank. Each of these stocks gained more than 5%. The top three stocks pulling the index down include PNB Gilts, Cybertech Systems and Software, and Gokaldas Exports.

All the sectoral indices on the BSE were trading in the red, with BSE Metal, BSE Realty, and BSE Consumer Durables trading at a discount of more than 3%.

The upcoming Union Budget, the rising price of crude oil, and the continued selling from the FIIs are making investors all the more nervous.
