Kotak Pioneer Fund is a thematic offering from Kotak Mutual Fund, that was launched in October 2019 generated a 28.48% Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) since its inception. The objective of this fund is to generate capital appreciation via a well-diversified portfolio of equity, equity-related securities and units of global mutual funds that invests in companies that utilize new forms of production, technology, distribution or processes which are likely to challenge existing markets or value networks, or displace established market leaders, or bring in novel products and/or business models.

Looking at the performance of the fund on a quarterly basis and comparing the same with S&P BSE 500 TRI and its category, on the upside, the fund has consistently beat its category. However, on the downside, the fund falls more compared to its category. Having said that, it still is able to protect its downside better than the compared index.

Kotak Pioneer Fund is made up of 50 stocks, wherein the top 10 stocks form 39% and the top three sectors form 35% of its entire portfolio. This showcases how well the fund is diversified. However, one thing to note here is that although the individual stocks have weightage not more than 7.5%, 15.37% of its portfolio is dedicated to a global mutual fund.

On the sectoral front, compared to its category, this fund is overweight on automobiles, services, energy and capital goods. On the flip side, it is underweighted on financial, technology and healthcare. The top five sectors encapsulate automobile, financial, services, energy and capital goods.

This fund is managed by Harish Krishnan who also manages or co-manages funds like Kotak Bluechip Fund, Kotak Infrastructure and Economic Reforms Fund, Kotak Balanced Advantage Fund, Kotak Focused Equity Fund and Kotak Manufacture in India Fund.
