Nifty 50 ended slightly lower in yesterday’s volatile session closing 0.13 per cent lower at 17,222 levels. Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices with mid-cap and small-cap indices ending marginally higher. On the sectoral front, banks, financials, and consumer durables plunged, while stocks of metal, IT, pharma, and oil & gas surged.

Nifty 50 has been consolidating in the narrow range for the last five consecutive trading sessions. On the other hand, Bank Nifty continued to underperform Nifty 50, as it declined more than 1.7% against a fall of mere 0.13% in Nifty 50. Having said that, the fall in crude oil prices likely aid banks to regain some lost grounds.
