Domestic indices trade higher as RBI hikes repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.4%

As losses at Apple Inc and energy companies slowed the bullish trend, Wall Street indices finished marginally lower. The S&P 500 edged lower by 0.08% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.26%. Investors were anticipating monthly jobs data for hints on the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike.

Indian domestic markets opened with modest gains and were trading higher as a result of the RBI raising its rate by 50 basis points to 5.4% and the GDP prediction being at 7.2%. BSE Telecom was the top-gaining sector, with shares of GTL Infrastructure Ltd appreciating over 7% while the majority of sectors gained. After falling to their lowest level before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February of the previous session, oil prices continued to decline on Friday as the market worried about the effects of inflation on demand.

At 11:20 am, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 17,462.65 level, gaining by 0.46%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel whereas; Hindalco Industries, Reliance Industries and Power Grid Corporation of India were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 58,580.30, advancing by 0.48%. The top gainers were UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel whereas; Reliance Industries, Maruti Suzuki and Power Grid Corporation of India were the top draggers of the session.
