Latest data showed that in August, US private sector business activity declined for the second consecutive month. Investor emphasis on data showing a sluggish economy caused Wall Street indices to end lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.47%, and the S&P 500 declined 0.22%.

The domestic indices in India started off lower, mirroring the weakness in the global markets, but eventually managed to recover their earlier losses by moving upward. Nearly every sector was trading higher, with BSE Realty and BSE Utilities ranking as the top two gaining sectors. Today, public subscription for the three-day IPO of Dreamfolks Services began, with prices ranging from Rs 308 to Rs 326 per share.

At 11:25 am, the BSE Sensex gained 0.15%, reaching a level of 59,117. The Nifty 50 index rose 0.15% to 17,604 level. On the Sensex, NTPC Ltd, IndusInd Bank and Power Grid Corporation of India were the top gainers, while Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services and Titan were the top losers.

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index advanced 0.37% and was trading at a level of 24,862, while the Smallcap index added 0.82% and was trading at a level of 28,293.
