Domestic indices trade in a narrow range, backed by consumer stocks.

All the three major U.S. stock indices seesawed between slight gains and losses earlier in the session, but as Wednesday's Consumer Prices report from the Labor Department drew near, they turned sharply lower. The Nasdaq Composite index declined 0.95%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.62% whereas S&P 500 lost 0.92%. After losing all ground the day before, Twitter share prices jumped over 4%.

On the flip side, modest gains were witnessed when the Indian markets opened on Wednesday. At 12:00 pm, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 16,081.25 level, rising by 0.14%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Asian Paints and JSW Steel Ltd whereas; IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 53,938.56 gained by 0.10%. The top gainers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Asian Paints and Larsen and Toubro whereas; IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel were the top draggers of the session.

The rupee opened flat against the US dollar, amid a rally in equity markets and easing retail inflation. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in India surged to 19.6% in May from 7.1% in April, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The May industrial growth rate of 19.6% is the highest in a year, aided by a favourable base effect.
