Domestic equity bourses tanked after RBI hiked REPO and CRR rates.

Today Nifty Media index closed at 2066.05, down 4.29%. Over the last month, the index has dropped 16.00%. Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd was down 9.47%, TV18 Broadcast Ltd fell 9.36%, and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd fell 4.54% among the members. Over the last year, the Nifty Media index has risen 35.00%, compared to 15.05% for the benchmark Nifty 50 index.

The Nifty Realty index has fallen 3.27% on the day, while the Nifty Metal index has fallen 3.21%. The Nifty 50 index has fallen 2.29% to settle at 16677.6, while the SENSEX has fallen 2.29% to close at 55669.03.

The yield on the 10-year benchmark federal paper surged to 7.378% from its previous close of 7.119% following the RBI's rate hike announcement. IndusInd Bank (down 3.91%), HDFC Bank (down 3.40%), Bandhan Bank (down 3.16%), AU Small Finance Bank (down 2.85%), Axis Bank (down 2.77%), State Bank of India (down 2.31%), ICICI Bank (down 2.26%), and Punjab National Bank (down 1.71%) were among the Nifty Bank index's constituents that fell.

On Wednesday, European markets fell across the board, while most Asian stocks closed lower as global investors awaited the Federal Reserve's critical monetary policy announcement. Investors kept a close eye on the conflict in Ukraine, with the EU considering more oil sanctions against Russia as Russian forces continue to shell targets in eastern Ukraine.
