Today's Nifty Auto index closed at 10412.35, up 2.44%. Over the last month, the index has lost 3.00%. Tata Motors Ltd gained 8.60%, MRF Ltd gained 6.55%, and Tube Investments of India Ltd gained 5.50% among the members. The Nifty Auto index has risen 4.00% in the past year, compared to a 7.39% increase in the benchmark Nifty 50 index.
The Nifty Metal index fell 2.08% on the day, while the Nifty FMCG index gained 1.84%. Today, the Nifty 50 was down 0.16% to 15782.15, while the SENSEX fell 0.26% to 52793.62.
In April 2022, India's retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), increased to 7.79%. For March, retail inflation was 6.95%. The CPI data has now exceeded the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) upper margin of 6% for the fourth month in a row. The market breadth, which indicates the market's overall health, was solid. On the BSE, there were 2155 gains and 1182 losses, and 135 shares remained unchanged.
The Dow Jones futures were up 227 points, signalling that the US stock market would open higher today. On Friday, European and Asian stocks rose across the board as investors assessed the outlook for inflation and interest rates following a sore week.
