Nifty 50 opened today’s session on a positive note at 17,920.85 as against its previous close of 17,895.7. This was a result of strong global cues. However, at the time of writing, Nifty 50 was off day’s high. Key Wall Street indices ended higher on Wednesday amid anticipation of a muted rate hike.

Nasdaq Composite concluded up 1.76%, Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 0.8% and S&P 500 jumped 1.28% in overnight trade. Tracking the overnight action of Wall Street, Asian indices traded mixed with only Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s SSE Composite trading lower.

At 11:30 a.m., Nifty 50 was trading at 17,814.75, down by 80.95 points or 0.45%. Broader market indices performed mixed compared to the frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index was trading down by 0.2% and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index gained 0.03%.

On BSE, the advance-decline ratio was negative with 1474 stocks advancing, 1804 declining and 153 remaining unchanged. On the sectoral front, all the sectors are trading flat to negative.

According to the data as on January 11, FIIs were net sellers and DIIs were net buyers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares to the tune of Rs 3,208.15 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,430.62 crore.
