Domestic indices trade higher, Tata Steel surges over 2%. 

As the equity market resumed trading after a holiday in Japan, the Nikkei 225 index surged 2.5%, boosting shares across Asian markets. With a loss of 19 points, the SGX Nifty predicted a flat opening for India's broader index. The domestic indices in India opened flat as expected.

Oil and energy stocks supported the Sensex and Nifty 50 trimmed some of their early losses and traded higher. The International Energy Agency revised its forecast for this year's growth in oil demand as some consumers switch to oil as a response to rising natural gas prices, which led to an increase in oil prices of more than 1%. Gains were also witnessed in the metal and realty sector. 

At 12:40 pm, the BSE Sensex rose 0.16%, reaching a level of 59,428.68. The Nifty 50 index gained 0.20% to the 17,693.75 level. On the Sensex, Tata Steel, NTPC Ltd and Power Grid Corporation of India were the top gainers, while Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, and Larsen and Toubro were the top losers. 

Gayatri Projects and Sanghi Industries witnessed enthusiastic buying in the small-cap index, with both gaining over 12%. The top BSE gainers locked in 20% upper circuits were KBS India Ltd, Narbada Gems and Jewellery, and Williamson Magor and Company.
